Today in kindy we took advantage of the beautiful breeze and went of on an adventure to bush kindy. We especially went in search of hollows armed with our book “a hollow is a home” and we looked to see if we could find hollows of different sizes. We found large and small hollows and even saw one in use by a pair of galahs. We wondered if they had their little chicks or fledglings inside.
The girls spotted a kookaburra, and this is a “hollow dependant species” as they use hollows for breeding. We saw a VERY large hollow and we were also fascinated spotting tree hollows that had fallen to the ground to make homes for ground animals.
It was fun to find a hollow and then research (using our book) to learn which animals would use them.
The Kindy Students and teachers are regular visitors and care-takers to the Rogers Reserve, picking up rubbish and doing plant and fauna surveys. We greatly appreciate the updates from Miss Sarah and the teachers. The students have also applied for a grant to do tree planting in areas where lantana has been removed and it is now sparse.
