Many people aren't aware that Charles and Motee Rogers were well known Musicians, as well as generous benefactors of the Highfields Reserve named in their memory.

Lovely to see this award in their hour still continuing today.

Congratulations to all competitors at this year’s Charles & Motee Rogers Piano Competition held on Saturday 24 August. We enjoyed a wonderful day listening to our young local performers from Grade 1 to Diploma level. The standard was high and the competition very competitive. Our adjudicator, Mr Mark Gibson delighted us with his helpful and engaging comments. Special thanks go to Ben Fraser at FraserCo Piano for sponsoring the competition and to the Glennie School for allowing us to use the Performing Arts Centre.

Grade 1-2

Spencer Perrin (Winner), Isabel Howman (Runner Up), Lincoln Smith, Julienne Soriano, Roi Kim (Highly Commended)

Grade 3-4

Elisabelle Lee (Winner), Oscar Perrin (Runner Up), Lincoln Gustafson, Amber Yu, Gabriel Scully (Highly Commended).

Grade 5-6

Tiffany Tay (Winner), Mirabelle Lee (Runner Up), Yifan Yu, Aela Scott, Maya Harrington, Chloé Wong (Highly Commended).

Diploma

Toowoomba Koala and Wildlife Rescue is in Highfields.

Koala “Kylie” was not keen on being rescued after she ran through a busy petrol station on sunday morning! She then crossed a busy road and took refuge in a street tree on a very busy corner Thankfully she eventually complied and we got her to safety.

Thanks to those who offered help especially Greg from Parks and Wildlife Twmba and the lovely Petr for staying with the koala to make sure she was safe while we arrived! This one little feisty koala took 3 of us to get her down!

I recorded the bird call in Roger's Reserve - I just think the whole thing is hillarious (and wonderful) This is wonderful- anyone else heard a bird call that reminds them of something? (Also if you don't think it's a butcherbird please let me know) - Scot McPhie
